Copy layer, free transform and use blanding mode lighter color

Darker color again until you see what shape would you paint

Lighter color again until you see what shape would you paint

Use smudge tool. Use laso tool and gradient tool for shading with blending mode multiply

Paint over the object

use blending mode color dodge for glare effect and finish.. :3
