Dilan 1990 movie took my soul by force. I never had this engaged with Indonesian movies after 'Petualangan Sherina'. The vibe, places, musics, and the casts also. Iqbaal had took the internet drown in deep guilt to become Dilan's cast in motion picture. People said he is too sweet, too kind, too childish, too coboy junior-ish. Well, I wasn't spill my judgement, because I've never read the book of Dilan 1990 or see Iqbaal 's acting. What I knew is Pidi Baiq, the author, was the director. I've met him before and I believe that he is not a mortgage of his own imagination and idealism. So I just wait until I sit in the theatre. In the last week of January 2018 I watched Dilan by myself (like every movies) and what I watched was not a cheesy highschool lovestory where Indonesian TV always brought us into. The story had some vibe that I cn't describe, the story was very light but had a good intrigue. I thought Iqbaal had a suitable "character design" for Dilan, Idk it just felt right.
I always have these projection of pictures and vivid memories about highschool and Bandung City and Dilan 1990 just throw some of it perfectly on my face, it pictured almost the as same as what's in my head. I never in a relationship, I never involved in any brawl, but I could dive into the story and go with the plots.
