"LIANG TEH CAP PISTOL" PACKAGING REDESIGNED
This is an assignment to redesign the packaging of an existing food/drink product.
ZHENZHU LIANG TEH CAP PISTOL
is a canned herbal tea which is "formulated especially to help relieve and prevent heartburn" - as stated in the official website of the manufacturer (PT. Sinde Budi Sentosa). It is made from a combination of natural herbs such as luo han guo (Fructus momordicae), chrysanthemum (Flos chrysanthemi), and honeysuckle (Flos lonicerae).
Liang teh is a common herbal tea found in Indonesia, especially in Medan. You can find it in the streets, served with ice, or you can also find the canned ones like this one in any convenience stores or supermarkets. Just like most kinds of herbal tea, it is often associated with Chinese, although not all liang teh is produced by Chinese (or Chinese Indonesians in this case). It is usually referred to as 'liang cha' in Chinese - literally translated as "cool tea".
The new design is inspired by traditional Chinese paintings. They usually have good management of white space, making them minimalistic, simple, yet beautiful. Red is a very prominent color in Chinese culture and tradition, which is why the usage of red in this packaging is important in attracting consumers looking for Chinese related products - as it is also used in the original packaging. But too much red will make it look "hot" instead of "cooling" and "refreshing", which are the true characteristics of the drink itself.
The illustrations shown in the packaging are luo han guo plants and mountains. Done in watercolor.
