Title: "Pulang" Tableware Series

The title, "Pulang", means "to go home" in Indonesian. The project is an investigation of Indonesian eating customs. The aim is to offer memorable dining experience while at same time embracing Indonesia heritage of Batik. Related to heritage of rich spices, most of Indonesian cuisines have vibrant colours. Batik with Kawung pattern are stamped on tableware surface to create visual appeal. The food stains that left traces on surface eventually fill Kawung pattern. Moreover, in traditional customs, Indonesian usually eat with bare hands. Hence, tactile experience comes first from touching tableware. Natural terracotta is applied on lower parts to offer sense of traditional material. Using visual element of Kawung pattern and tactile sense of terracotta material, "Pulang" tableware series creates stronger sensorial experience.
