ABOUT THE PROJECT
NAME: COELUM BAY
For this project, the first thing that we keep in mind is that Surabaya Ocean Resort is going to be built with waterfront city themed city. We started with looking for names for it. So, first, speaking of word “City” nowdays, there will be skyscraper. From skyscraper, we take the word ‘sky’. But using the word ‘sky’ in English is already common in places, so search over other language with keyword ‘sky’, and decided to use word sky in Latin instead, Coelum, to make it more unique. Coelum name give two meaning. One is sky and the other is heaven. With several of facilities listed on the brief, we belive that the described word, heaven, is also suitable as its name. But, the word Coelum doesn’t represent the waterfront city theme.There, we got the idea of adding word ‘Bay’ after ‘Coelum’. Inspired by a resort name stated in Singapore, Marina Bay Sands, which has gone international, the word ‘Bay’ perfectly represent the theme of the city as Surabaya’s North side is close to water. Combining word Coelum and Bay give us the name “CoelumBay” or also can be translated as HeavensBay. This name gives the impression of happiness, luxury, and ease of life. By the name, the image of the city would be a place where you can live happily as impression of happiness, a beautiful environment as impression of luxury, and a place to spend your time relaxing in the city as impression of ease of life.
After we decided to use the name “CoelumBay”, we did a market test with our friends as market’s target. And it turns out that the name has been replied positively. As it had a positive result, we start to think of the logo. The first thing that we want to put in there is alphabet C and B as it represents the name, Coelum Bay. Start by Sketching C and B in computer, we want that that a circle appears on the top of the C. The reason that we want a circle to appear in the logo which will be the icon of the place is that we want to show that Coelum Bay is firm and complete. F
