Entry for D&AD 2015 for Pantone brief. The challange of D&AD New Blood Awards 2015 for PANTONE is to reimagine our hometown through a new colour scheme. I choose Singapore as my hometown. Eventhough I am Indonesian and only live in Singapore for one and half year for college, I feel like I belong here with all the varieties of culture and it feels like home.
One of iconic in Singapore daily life is what they called ‘Kopitiam’ which is a traditional coffee shop that served famous Singapore breakfast set. This set includes hot milk tea, two soft boiled eggs, and butter kaya toast. Usually people add light soy sauce and white pepper to add the savoury flavor for the soft boiled eggs.
Breakfast set is important and famous for people in Singapore to eat before going to work or to school as it provides energy for their day. However, the dinnerware for these breakfast sets are having dull light brown color and green flower pattern on it. I think by changing the colour scheme of the dinnerware to PANTONE Pastels & Neon Uncoated will make a difference by creating bright yet soft colour to brighten the start of the day in the morning and to give the feeling of happiness to people who order the breakfast set. Eventhough it use different colour scheme, it still keeps the identity of Singapore by having the pattern of flowers with the same colour of each dinnerware to give the sense of traditional in a new and modern kopitiam, Pantone Kopitiam.
